Search engine optimization (SEO) is not as advanced as you might think.
As you will find out in this guide, improving your website ranking is more methodical than advanced.
We are going to provide three technical tweaks you can perform to achieve incredible results with your website in 2020.
Are you ready to get started?
If so, let’s begin!
1. Receive Featured Snippets
Google regularly features content at the top of its search engine result pages (SERPs).
Here is an example of what a featured snippet looks like:
Since featured snippets sit at the top of the SERPs, they can become high-volume website traffic opportunities.
Fortunately, getting your website mentioned in a featured snippet isn’t too difficult.
You can start by making a list of the pages you have that are already on the first page of Google.
Nearly all featured snippets are derived from the first page of Google.
Next, identify the type of featured snippet you want to receive.
- Definition Snippet: (ex. “What is SEO?”)
- List Snippet: (ex. “15 SEO Tips to Try in 2020?”)
- Table Snippet: (ex. “How much does SEO cost?”)
Finally, add a snippet to a high-ranking page with your target keyword.
Brian Dean at Backlinko presented a great example of how to do so.
This follows the format of most featured snippets, and this led to Brian getting his own snippet shortly after following this practice.
Receiving featured snippets can take time, but if you’re already following effective SEO habits, it shouldn’t be too difficult.
2. Improve Dwell Time
Dwell time is the amount of time people spend on your website.
Obviously, Google factors dwell time in its search algorithm.
The longer people stay on your website, the more search engines will believe that your site is providing amazing value to them.
After all, people wouldn’t stay on a poor website.
To keep web visitors on your website longer, you can try embedding helpful videos.
Embedded videos can decrease your site’s bounce rate by keeping website visitors glued to your website.
Try embedding videos today to see drastic improvements to your website ranking over time.
3. Create Linkable Assets
It’s not enough to create great content for your blog.
You should strive to write content that will acquire backlinks.
For example, our post on how to improve your domain authority is a great post, but we can admittedly say that it’s not a post that will receive a lot of backlinks.
Why?
Domain authority is a technical topic.
Many bloggers and website owners instead tend to focus on topics that their audiences can relate to.
For example, email marketing is a pain point for millions of businesses across the world.
This is why our post on 10 tricks to increase your email subscribers will receive a lot of backlinks for bloggers looking for sources.
Content creation is more about producing phenomenal content.
Sure, write amazing content.
But, if you’re not prioritizing backlinks, you’re going to fall short of your long-term SEO objectives.
